Cleaning barracks
During their military service, conscripts learn not only defence skills but also important cleaning skills that are useful in civilian life. Well-cleaned facilities are not only pleasant but also healthy. If surfaces are not cleaned, pollutants that weaken air quality remain in the air. In addition, dirty surfaces more easily spread infectious disease.
Cleaning service is part of a conscript’s everyday life
Professional cleaners working for Defence Properties Finland and service providers only clean the barracks between arrival intakes, in other words a few times a year. Conscripts are responsible for cleaning their rooms the rest of the time.
The cleaning service includes wiping contact surfaces, removing stains and cleaning floors. Conscripts clean other premises including corridors and WC facilities daily and professional cleaners come in once a week.
We wanted to make cleaning as simple and eco-friendly as possible. Different surfaces have their own cleaning textiles and since detergents have already been ready dispensed onto the textiles, they are ready for use.
You can find more information and instructions about cleaning in the learning material and cleaning lessons on the Finnish Defence Forces’ Moodle platform and from your instructor. Some garrisons have separate cleaning lessons for all recruits and group leaders.
